Marriages are made in heaven but who is “eligible” and who is “tainted” is decided by the aunties sitting in our drawing rooms while munching on a samosa
that they are especially having to not break your heart as they are on a diet but still care for your feelings, pass on the soft drink because who eats just samosa. They can’t let the money you spent on that go to waste. Such caring ladies are only looking out for you when they tell you about your weight. As too much weight is ugly and too little weight won’t get them the desired weight they want their grandchild to weigh.
Weight is directly proportional to eating!
Mental Health in Pakistan the most heard lines for all girls is “being good in their behavior and ways”, “what’s in the face”, “looks don’t matter”. As long as you are a good girl, points for being a doctor ready to leave your career for marriage, you will get the best proposal and the boy, most importantly his family will love you. Somebody ask these aunties that since they have been through all of this why can’t they be a little more compassionate towards the younger girls. When asked for men its always, men are judged by the weight of their pockets. These practices make both men and women materialistic and superficial. Weighing more or less than normal weight is dangerous for health in many ways but there are many medical struggles that these women or men for that reason might be suffering from.
Eating disorders through mental stress, what’s that?
Bulimia and anorexia are the main two weight-related issues that have a major impact on your mental and physical health issues. Bulimia is a sort of eating disorder.
• A bulimia patient can eat up to 2000 calories in one sitting and then induces vomiting right after. This vomiting is induced to make sure the calories don’t linger on, in their bodies.
• Excessive purging actually stretches the stomach, making more space for food.
• There are several other ways of purging such as excessive exercise, laxative use, enemas, fasting.
• People who binge without purging often receive the diagnosis of binge eating disorder.
So aunties please control your judgments and try to understand the psyche of someone who might be facing this issue. Even the most settled and loved the lady in the world Princess Diana, OMG the Queen of England’s Bahu suffered from this disorder. So no, money and power do not guarantee mental peace but nice people around you, who understand you do guarantee it.
Why so skinny, beta?
Most Common types of Mental disorders are another form of eating disorder that someone might be facing is anorexia nervosa often referred to as just anorexia.
• An anorexic patient is obsessed with not gaining weight, avoiding meals, maintaining their body shape.
• When all of this goes to the extreme they lose extra weight to the point of starvation they also exercise excessively.
• Most of this has to do with lost self-esteem and obsession towards health and fitness.
Mentally this takes a toll on the patient as they end up suffering from extreme depression. People who suffer from any form of depression or anxiety are more likely to put on weight. It has been found in studies that people who suffer from any form of mental disorder are more likely to develop an unhealthy relationship with food because they don’t care what the results of unhealthy eating might be.
How to not get on the nerves!
Instead of belittling everyone around us we should try and understand what that person might be going through and help them to get health education. Encourage them to visit a doctor and get professional help so they do not fear not being accepted by society by declaring the fact that they are suffering mentally and that they need a doctor and medicines to lose or gain excess weight. Encourage these women to seek help, going to a psychologist should be made as normal as going to the doctor for the flu. Weight issues and going to the doctor should be accepted so the new generation doesn’t suffer from what you did.
How to deal with these mental illnesses
So give those aunties another samosa to chew on while you embark on the mission to explain these points to them, we know it is impossible for these ladies to understand these points but all changes start with you being the first one to recognize and acknowledge these facts. First, it’s you and your family who need to understand others and accept them in your social and family circles and be an inspiration to those around you. Someone will marry her if you raise your boys to be men and encourage these women to get help. This story goes both ways.
