We Pakistanis contribute to around 2.63% of the world population with a population of over two hundred million (Worldmeters.info).
That would make many hearts and why not as Pakistan is known to have the biggest heart of all countries. But with a big heart, it also faces many heart problems. The people who are ready to help others are in dire need to help themselves.
High blood pressure and high cholesterol are very commonly seen in the masses. Pakistan needs to understand the importance of health. Obesity due to physical inactivity is pilling on the problems and causing a major spike in the stress that the majority are facing. To add to this is the unhealthy diet of the major population who have no control or check over what they are consuming. Pakistan also loses at least 12 of its people every hour due to heart attacks (Dawn News). Adding to that one-third of its population dies of various cardiovascular diseases, that are diseases related to the heart and blood vessels (Dawn News). 30 % to 40% the population in total is lost to these fatal diseases (Shifa Hospital). Many people also end up in worse conditions.
Pakistanis suffering Common Heart Disease from strokes annually are estimated to be 250 people of every 100,000 people. Each year a rise of 350,000 cases is seen (Shifa Hospital). That is a dangerously high rate of increase, with many other heart-related diseases not even added to this number. An estimated 17.5 million people died from cardiovascular diseases in 2012 (Health TV). By the end of 2017, these deaths have reached about 200,000 per year that is 410 people to every 100,000 people, that is a double in just 5 years (Dawn News). Most of these deaths can be avoided with just a little dedication towards our health and a few changes in our daily lives. Roughly one out of five deaths from heart diseases are directly linked to smoking (Dawn News). Smoking can be easily avoided which can help reduce death risks. Healthcare needs to be taken seriously by a vast majority.
In Pakistan, a person gets a heart attack when his cholesterol level reaches 150 milligrams as opposed to in Europe where they have a heart attack at 200 milligrams (The Express Tribune). Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in your blood and in your cells, it helps the organs to run properly. An excess amount of it in the body can cause multiple health problems. Watching what you are eating can go miles where your health is concerned and incorporating something as simple as brisk walking for 30 minutes a day can help reduce the chances of these problems. Dying may seem like the worst possible scenario but the scarier part is ending up paralyzed or with multiple health problems.
Pakistan is one of the top three countries with the highest oil consumption. 66% of the heart diseases stem from the use of excessive oils in our foods. With the diseases doubling so rapidly, a little change from everyone can go a long way. Health issues are a growing concern, take care of your heart today.
